Summary
Captain Robert Carrington is 64 years old and a Starfleet veteran of the Dominion War, Cardassian – Federation War and countless other conflicts and is committed to the defence of the Federation and ideals.
He wears his years of experience lightly and has the insightful command – style of one who has seen so much – knowing when to give his people free rein to shine and when to pull those reins and dictate commands with absolute authority.
Whilst spending some years dedicated to the mandate for exploration, Robert has also commanded a number of the Fleets more martial – oriented vessels and is representative of the ‘New – School’ of Starfleet Officer that values security over exploration & expansion but is still open minded enough to the possibilities of diplomacy and the furtherance of discovery.
Robert sees it as his legacy to identify new talent and mentor them towards paths of productivity and greatness – so much so that he has constantly damaged his chances of advancement to Flag – officer, due to his altruistic – meddling and poaching of promising candidates to nurture aboard his own command.
Appearance
Robert Carrington is in his 60th decade, with a thoughtful, well – lined face that speaks volumes of his many years as a Starfleet Officer.
With well – kempt silver – hair and intelligent grey eyes, Robert is in good physical shape for a man of his age and carries himself with dignity. That said, even with the benefits of 25th Century medicine, no man is proof from the advances of age and time and Robert is keenly aware of his physical limitations – having the good sense to defer Away Missions to his XO and other officers.
A career Starfleet Officer, Robert is always impeccably turned out when in uniform and demands that the officers serving below him pay similar attention to their turn – out.
Personality
Robert Carrington possesses the self – assurance that comes with years of service and is always careful in projecting confidence in his role of CO.
Robert seeks to empower the officers under him to use their initiative and celebrates their achievements – making him a popular commander and younger officers, in particular, see Carrington as something of a father – figure. For his own part, Carrington views all of those under his charge as his responsibility and feels that responsibility deeply.
Nevertheless, as Starship Captain – Robert knows that hard choices often have to made and he never makes those choices lightly or would ask a member of his crew to embark on a course of action that he would not attempt himself.
On a personal level, Robert Carrington, is warm, engaging, interested and well – educated.
History
Born in the city of Bridgeport, Connecticut on Earth in 2337 AD, Robert Edward Carrington was the son of an Oceanographer Mother and a Father in Starfleet’s Diplomatic Corps.
Robert enrolled into Starfleet Academy in 2353 AD and graduated as an Ensign in early 2358 – serving his initial duty assignment aboard the Cheyenne – Class Fast – Cruiser USS Cordoba (NCC – 72850), where he was to serve as a Tactical Officer for a span of 6 years.
Much of Robert’s early career was dominated by the events of the Federation – Cardassian War as he served (respectively) aboard the Nebula – Class Cruiser USS Concord (NCC – 60148) and then as the Commanding Officer of the Saber – Class Scout – USS Durandal (NCC – 69210).
With the close of hostilities and the signing of peace accords between the United Federation of Planets and the Cardassian Union, Robert was afforded the opportunity to finally embrace Starfleet’s core – mission of peaceful exploration as he served as the Executive Officer of the Galaxy – Class Exploratory Cruiser USS Trident (NCC – 77001).
The shadow of war once again threatened the peace of the Federation and culminated in the events of the Dominion War – events that saw Robert Carington take command of the Akira – Class Heavy Cruiser USS Ticonderoga (NCC – 69489) during the conflict (with future TF72XO Trevenan Williams serving as his Executive Officer) and remained her captain through peacetime – up until he accepted command of the Inquiry – Class Exploratory Cruiser USS Albion (NCC – 89881) in 2399 AD.
