History
Rosa was born in Mendoza, Argentina in 2362. She was raised by her grandparents after her parents were killed in a tragic accident. Rosa had a wonderful childhood, she had a lot of extended family and was close to her cousins as they grew up. In truth, they were more like siblings, all of them looking out for each other.
Rosa loved spending time with her Grandmother and Aunts in the kitchen, helping to prepare food for family dinners. Sundays were a special day where the family all came together, enjoyed good food, they played games and had family time.
As Rosa grew older she met and fell in love with Renato Gutierrez-Lopez. He was a couple grades ahead of her and she loved watching him play sports. Rosa was shy where he was concerned, her cousins would tease her about him. When he asked her out and they started dating, Rosa knew he passed the family test when he came to the first family Sunday dinner. Her grandmother instantly took a liking to him.
As their relationship grew, Rosa listened as Ren talked about wanting to join Starfleet. She encouraged him to follow his dreams and promised she would follow him once she graduated from high school. The years that Ren was in San Francisco were lonely for her, she missed him, but once she graduated, they got married and Rosa joined him, signing up at a culinary school to pursue her dreams to be a chef.
While going to culinary school, Rosa gave birth to their first child, Tulio Martin Gutierrez in 2379. She juggled her schedule between raising their son and learning all that she could. Before long, Rosa was pregnant with their second child, Chevela Esperanza Gutierrez. It was a little more difficult for her to manage a home, the restaurant she now was a chef at and raise two children. Ren was great help, when he had time, but Rosa didn’t want to take him away from his studies, being a Starfleet officer was very important to him and so it was to her as well.
After his graduation from the Academy, Ren was assigned to the USS Davenport. Rosa and their two children joined him on the ship. At first, Rosa felt a little lost. She loved raising her sons but she missed cooking. She found little ways to compensate but finally an opportunity came to help out the chef on the ship. Rosa was soon volunteering in the kitchen and became good friends with the chef.
In 2982 Rosa and Ren had their third child, Simon Rafael Gutierrez. Their quarters were becoming a bit crowded and Rosa was juggling three chilren now. She loved being a mother, taking care of their children became her priority and she found herself spending less time helping out the ships chef. Rosa wanted to be there for both her husband and their children.
In 2385, Ren took a transfer to the USS Valor, which gave them bigger quarters, which helped with having three children. Rosa took a position as an assistant chef there. She only worked part time and it was a great balance between being their children and helping create pleasing meals for the crew.
By 2386, Rosa and Ren had their fourth child, Candelaria Lolina Gutierrez. Rosa was grateful that this ship could accomodate their large family, giving them all the space they needed. With the older three now in school, Rosa would take Candelaria to the kitchen with her and started helping out more.
In 2390, Rosa and Ren had their fifth and final child. They named her Ariana Ada Gutierrez, after Rosa’s grandmother. Rosa loved having a large family, having been an only child, she was always grateful for her cousins, who were there for her whenever she needed them. She taught her children the importance of family.
In 2392 Ren accepted a transfer to the USS Horizon. Rosa was happy that once again, she and their five children were allowed to join him on the ship. Rosa took a position as Head Chef on the Horizon. All of their children were now in school except for Ariana, who she took to work with her or used a Holo Nanny when it wasn’t feasible. Rosa felt like their lives were on track and she loved the closeness of their family.
As time passed, one by one, each of their older three children went to the academy. It was really hard for Ren and Rosa to say goodbye to them but they respected their children’s choices and were proud to watch them venture out and start their own lives.
Rosa watched as her husband started to change before her. First, the attack of the Synth, which affected them all but she could see he was emotionally torn, there was anger and she felt he was questioning himself and his choices as he had defended the Federation and their concentrating on exploration.
Nothing prepared any of them for the battle on Frontier Day. Rosa was there as much as she could be for Ren. She listened to him as he spoke of the attack, his emotional upheaveal, watching friends, people he served with attacking one another. As much as she supported him, she knew that she couldn’t fix this for him, he had to fight his demons and come to terms with it. With his mentor, Abigail, pushing him to go to the command academy, Rosa decided it was best for her and the girls to return to Mendoza, so that he could concentrate on his studies and try and clear his mind.
Arriving back in Mendoza, Rosa and the girls stayed with Ren’s family, though they spent a lot of time going back and forth between their families. Rosa got to catch up with her cousins and meet some new family members and every Sunday, she and her two daughters went to the Martinez Sunday Dinner. It was a tradition she had missed and wanted to take advantage while they were visiting.
Rosa was happiest when Ren was able to visit them, which was more often than she thought he would be able to. She saw over time that he seemed more grounded and to be coming to terms with all that happened. She knew he would never be the same as before all that happened, but the man she loved was returning to her.
After Ren finished his command classes and graduated, he informed Rosa that he had been given command of the USS Paso Robles. Rosa took it as a good sign for them. She would be the ship’s chef and he would finally have his command. She looked forward to their future and couldn’t wait to see what it brought for their family.
