Summary
Captain Jack Anderson is a dedicated Starfleet Officer with a prolific service history. Having served in numerous conflicts across the galactic theater, Jack is considered a ‘soldier,’ having served primarily in Tactical, Intelligence, and Strategic fields during his tenure. A former member of Starfleet Strategic Command, following the end of the Dominion war, Jack spent most of the 2370s and 2380s ensuring the strong defense of the UFP in the ever-shifting lines of power.
Jack was forced into retirement in 2385, following the Attack on Mars, disillusioned by Starfleet Command’s decision to abandon their duties, and unable to ‘cope’ with the unwillingness to seek out the truth behind the attacks. His years of combat had instilled the need to face an enemy to vent his frustrations directly, yet there were none.
For 17 years, Jack accepted that maybe it was his time to step aside and resigned himself to a peaceful life. However, in 2401, following the Frontier Day Massacre, Jack’s reinstatement request was approved, thinking he would return to the field and get out of the desk. Unfortunate (for him), his qualifications saw him posted back to Strategic Command before settling as Deputy Commander of the Pathfinding Operations of Bravo Fleet’s Task Force 47.
Appearance
Jack is no longer the young strapping lad he was back during his glory years. At 6’1”, 190lbs, Jack still does his best to maintain physical shape, but his age has started to creep up on him. His body is leaner; his short, cropped hair has grayed out, and the crow’s feet around his eyes are now a staple to his visage. He generally has a squint or ‘distrusting’ look on his face when meeting new people, attributed to his years at war.
Personality
Jack is a man of many layers. On the surface, he is a quiet, distrusting, and skeptical individual, choosing to limit his interactions with others until he can form an appropriate opinion of their character. Professionally, Jack is the model definition of a soldier, well-informed on policy and protocol, and ensures orders are carried out directly and efficiently. When he cannot yet form an opinion about someone, Jack will usually lean on his professional side when dealing with them. The more internal and personal version, however, is a deeply passionate man who does his best to be kind, yet protect himself from harm. This manner of Jack is more open and comical with the ones around him.
However, years of conflict and war have left a deep scar on his heart, and when pushed, he has no moral or ethical bias to stoop to someone else’s level. He is a firm believer that a strong offense is the best defense.
History
Early Life
Jack was born in the historic Houston, Texas, on Earth. Jack was always an adventurous, if not rambunctious, child. His parents were not officers themselves, but worked in the astrophysics field, which allowed Jack to see the stars at a young age. When he was 14, Jack was emotionally struck by the memorial of the destruction of the Enterprise-C, seeing how the selfless actions of the Federation Crew impacted relations with the long-time hostility of the Klingons.
Starfleet Academy
Jack failed his attempt to join Starfleet in 2348, when he turned 18. However, this did not deter him. Jack spent two years in university studying Engineering before attempting the Entrance Exam again, and was accepted in 2350. There, Jack contemplated continuing with his Engineering Degree, but was bound and determined to follow a command track, taking classes such as Interstellar Ethnology, Leadership, and Tactical Analysis. Jack graduated with honors in 2354.
Commissioned Officer
USS Excalibur (Ambassador class)
Jack received his dream commission, being assigned as an ensign aboard the Ambassador Class USS Excalibur. His first few years as a Lower Decks Officer were filled with wonder and excitement, and mischief!
USS Thomas Paine (New Orleans class)
His next assignment came with more responsibilities and more reality, as the tension between the Cardassian and Federation came to a head. Now a Security Officer, arriving last at the distress call of Setlik III, Jack saw the true dark nature of space and the dangers that lurk around each nebula.
USS Merrimac (Nebula class)
With each passing rank came more responsibility, more danger, and more gritty, realistic truth. Jack took part in several border skirmishes as Tactical Officer, as well as serving as part of a Federation Task Force during the Klingon Civil War.
USS Budapest (Norway class)
As Executive Officer aboard the USS Budapest, Jack’s mettle was tested to its fullest as the Borg attacked Sector 001. Though the ship and crew survived, there was not much time to process before the Dominion War kicked off. Suffering the death of his captain in battle against Dominion Forces, Jack was thrust into command.
Command Officer
USS Mattis (Akira class)
Fully promoted to captain for his actions during the war, Jack was given command of the Akira-class USS Mattis, launching from Earth. The vessel had to turn right back around, as the Breen assaulted the heart of the Federation, and continued to fight valiantly through to the Battle of Cardassia
Starfleet Strategic Command
Due to his years of service and command, Jack was taken out of the Captain’s Seat to help manage and re-evaluate border security following the Romulan uprising in 2379.
Retirement
Following the Attack on Mars, Jack was disgusted at the Federation’s decision to pull away from the Romulan Relocation Efforts, despite the setback. He was also distraught at the willingness of command to chalk the horrific events of Mars as an ‘AI/Synthetic’ error, instead of properly investigating the issue and finding who was the true culprit. Due to his outbursts and the resignation of many other Flag officers, Jack was forced into mandatory retirement and thanked for his service, as they labeled him a potential risk and did not wish to give him enough rope to hang his career on.
Jack spent several years reflecting on when he had changed from a young, hopeful, space-awed child to a disgruntled old man. He struggled to settle down in a life of retirement, touring the galaxy and trying to find purpose.
Reinstatement
Starfleet Strategic Command
Following the Borg Attack on Earth during Frontier Day, Jack ran back to Starfleet to render assistance, who were all too willing to accept all the help they could get to bolster the loss of senior officers they suffered. Jack was reinstated as Captain and assisted in managing the ever-growing number of crises that were to follow.
Deputy Commander
As peace and exploration settled among the stars, Jack was re-assigned to the 4th Fleet, to continue to serve in an administrative command role as Deputy Commander of the 47th Pathfinding Task Force.
