Erika Tatsu

In 2383, a small civilian Cardassian research vessel, the CS Gavrel, stumbled on a disabled Borg probe. When the crew investigated the Borg ship, they found three growth pods. The drones within two of the pods were dead. The one in the third, though, was a girl. She looked human, though genetic scans found extensive modification, and while she was a teenager developmentally, telomere degredation indicated that she was likely at most three years old.

Against all common wisdom, they brought the sleeping drone aboard their ship and performed the extensive surgery required to disconnect her from the Collective. When she woke, she introduced herself as Command Matrix 1 Unit 3 of 5, though, after bonding with the daughter of the Cardassian captain, she chose another name – a human name, to match her genetics. She chose the name Erika Marie Tatsu.

Tatsu was taken to Federation space, then to Earth, to be debriefed on her knowledge of the Borg and fostered to a human family. When she was considered of-age, she enrolled in Starfleet Academy, helped along by her exceptional intelligence and physical ability. While some were concerned with the fact that she self-identified as Borg, her loyalty and ability were proven in her reports during her debriefing.

She served aboard the USS Kent early in her career, and was involved in multiple First Contact scenarios. After leaving Kent, she was brought into Starfleet Intelligence, working as the left hand of then-Intelligence head Admiral Pinna alongside her right hand Eden Enigma.
