Summary

Jonarom is a Starfleet officer currently serving as Chief Science Officer aboard the USS Bellerophon. Bright and ambitious, he previously spent a short tenure on the USS Odyssey as Chief Communications Officer. Still, when the chance came to return to the Bellerophon, the first ship he served on after graduating from Starfleet Academy, he eagerly seized it. Though still young, Jonarom has distinguished himself as a gifted scientist with an eidetic memory and an insatiable curiosity. His upbringing within one of Ardanan society’s most influential families has shaped him into a diplomatic and courteous officer. Yet, his sheltered background can sometimes lead him to be overly trusting or naïve.

Appearance

Jonarom is of average height and has a lean yet athletic build. His brown hair is nearly floppy, soft, and messy, usually pushed back to the side of his face. His bright, infectious smile gives him an approachable, warm aura. His deep brown eyes add to his charm, exuding a playful glint that is hard to miss.

  • Height: 5′ 11″ (1.8 m)
  • Weight: 151 lbs
  • Hair: Brown/Black
  • Eyes: Green

Personality

Jonarom is bright and energetic, whose enthusiasm makes him as approachable as he is brilliant. Gifted with an eidetic memory, he has a deep fascination with cosmology and linguistic anthropology, and can speak multiple languages with ease. His love of mathematics, astrophysics, and history makes him a self-proclaimed ‘cool nerd’. Jonarom is someone who enjoys so many aspects of his work that it can become overbearing for those who do not know him. He becomes very excited about any new discovery and is keen to complete his doctorate in the near future.

Along with his fondness for science, he also enjoys playing out holonovels, especially those set around the early voyages of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) under the command of Pike, Kirk and his all-time hero, Spock. Jonarom not only keeps his mind ticking over, but he is a highly active and accomplished swimmer from his Academy days, who still trains daily in the ship’s gym. This balance of sharp mind and physical discipline gives him both confidence and resilience, while his easy-going nature makes him enjoyable company during social events.

Beneath this charm, however, lies a more vulnerable side. Raised in an influential Ardanan family, Jonarom’s optimism and diplomacy sometimes make him overly trusting, and his perfectionist streak can lead to his own personal frustration. Even so, his genuine warmth, enthusiasm, and drive to grow ensure he remains a valued and inspiring presence among his crewmates.

Biography

Early Life

Jonarom was born on Edratos, one of the cloud cities of Ardana, on 26th December 2380, into a privileged family deeply rooted in the planet’s political establishment. Both of his parents came from influential backgrounds. They held high offices, which meant that from an early age, Jonarom was immersed in the traditions, rituals, and etiquette of Ardanan high society. Recognised quickly as gifted and talented by his teachers, his parents withdrew him from primary school to nurture his potential through one-to-one tutoring until he transitioned into secondary school at the age of eleven. He developed a deep affection for his tutor, who instilled in him a love for the sciences through innovative and engaging methods, igniting a lifelong passion for discovery.

As an only child, Jonarom initially found making friends difficult, but the encouragement of a supportive teacher helped him gain confidence. He threw himself into a range of extra-curricular activities, where he began to flourish both socially and personally. These clubs revealed his natural gift for languages, showcased his incredible speed in the pool as part of the swim team, and deepened his affection for history through the school’s historical appreciation society. Outside of school, he frequently accompanied his parents to formal functions, where he absorbed the diplomatic polish and cultural awareness that would later become hallmarks of his character.

A pivotal influence came when his favourite teacher gifted him a copy of Ambassador Spock’s autobiography. Captivated by the Vulcan’s lifelong service in Starfleet and his distinguished career in diplomacy, Jonarom found a role model who blended intellect with duty. Inspired by Spock’s example, he resolved to pursue a career in Starfleet. This was an ambition his parents, despite their own demanding careers and responsibilities, wholeheartedly supported.

Starfleet Career

Starfleet Academy

Jonarom attended Starfleet Academy on Earth, where he quickly fell in love with life in San Francisco. He embraced both the rigours of officer training and the excitement of academic study, thriving in the Academy’s vibrant atmosphere. His natural curiosity found its home in the sciences, and by his final two years, he had concentrated on astrophysics, cosmology, and linguistic anthropology. His dedication and brilliance saw him graduate as valedictorian of his class, having earned multiple degrees in astrophysics, cosmology, linguistic anthropology, and xeno-linguistics, as well as advanced qualifications in quantum engineering and cybernetics. As a result of his hard work and commitment to learning, Jonarom also completed his master’s degree. His remarkable aptitude for languages meant he left the Academy fluent in over forty-seven tongues, a talent that gave him a unique edge as both a scientist and future officer.

Beyond the classroom, Jonarom thrived in the Academy’s competitive sporting scene. A natural athlete in the water, he joined the swimming team in his first year and by his final year was serving as its captain, leading his squad to multiple victories and earning several medals himself. His leadership in the pool mirrored the same qualities he showed in his studies: discipline, enthusiasm, and the ability to inspire those around him.

During his valedictorian speech, he mentioned how much he had loved his time at the academy and learning so much about the galaxy that awaited him and his fellow cadets. The only thing he mentioned that he would not miss was the extensive survival training he successfully undertook in Antarctica, an experience that tested and sharpened his resilience in extreme conditions.

USS Bellerophon (NCC-74705)

After the Academy, Jonarom had many offers to join a range of positions. He was offered an internship at the Daystrom Institute, along with many other prestigious roles at various research institutes. Though flattered with these offers, he applied to become Chief Science Officer on the USS Bellerophon, which was under the command of Captain Horatio McCallister. He knew his application might have been a bit premature, given his early stage in his career, but one of his professors strongly recommended that he apply. His gutsy approach paid off, and Captain McCallister offered him the role.

Jonarom joined the Bellerophon after it returned to the Delta Quadrant, following a mission where it helped save the crew of the USS Odyssey from an alien ark and its sophisticated AI system. Jonarom’s eagerness in sharing his intellect earned him a quick reputation on the ship as a ‘child-genius’, and on many occasions, his work significantly contributed to the mission’s success. When the ship was assigned to the Odyssey Squadron, the Bellerophon participated in salvaging a Borg debris field on an icy world. During this mission, Jonarom determined that the Borg that did survive had somehow created their own sub-collective to maintain their hive mind state. He also discovered the remains of a spatial trajector from the Queencell on the world. He advised Captain McCallister on the necessary steps to destroy it, using an escaped Borg drone to contact what remained of the Borg Collective nearby.

Following the order to return to the Alpha Quadrant for Frontier Day celebrations, the Bellerophon and the Odyssey Squadron were tasked with temporary patrols in the Black Cluster. It was during this time that Jonarom admitted he missed their time in the Delta Quadrant, exploring the unknown. He also found himself struggling to run a department and was caught several times working late to keep up with reports. Captain McCallister took him under his wing, advising him on how to manage his workload effectively and training him on the responsibilities of a department head.

When the Dominion Lost Fleet reappeared on the far edge of the Deneb Sector, the Odyssey Squadron was sent to help defend the Federation colony in the Devenium System. When they arrived and found the entire colony missing, the squadron feared that the Jem’Hadar had killed everyone. This was not the case, and Jonarom discovered what the Dominion had done after finding the remnants of an artificial theta-band carrier. They had tried to use a metagenic weapon against the colony but failed and then proceeded to capture the entire colony into transporter suspension. His theory of what happened was recognised by Lieutenant Commander Lukiz Jen, the chief operations officer of the Odyssey, who suggested they find a solution to deal with the Dominion’s weapons of mass destruction back on the Odyssey. This meant that Jonarom was not on the Bellerophon when a Dominion battle cruiser severely damaged it. The loss of several of his comrades affected him; however, Jen supported him. Jonarom agreed to help save the colonists while on the Odyssey. After this was completed, he remained on the Odyssey for the final battle against the Dominion fleet at Deneb, in orbit of Farpoint Station.

USS Odyssey (NCC-80000)

With the Bellerophon heavily damaged and towed to Avalon Fleet Yards for its repairs, Jonarom was ordered to remain on the Odyssey. Ahead of the Frontier Day celebrations, Fleet Captain James McCallister offered him the position of Interim Chief Communications Officer for the event. McCallister had explained to Jonarom that Starfleet Command had been badgering him to have the role filled instead of expecting the operations division to deal with it. He relented and, knowing that Jonarom was temporarily free, he asked the young ensign to set up the new department. Jonaorm was reluctant at first, but eventually agreed to it. Along with his new position, Fleet Captain McCallister promoted Jonarom to Lieutenant Junior Grade.

During Frontier Day, when the Borg signal was activated from Jupiter, Jonarom was partially assimilated and became a drone, fighting against the other senior staff of the Odyssey. He was stunned and rendered unconscious during the entire saga. Eventually, he was rescued once the signal was dealt with. He remained on the Odyssey after being told that the Bellerophon was further damaged by those who had been partially assimilated and tried to take over the ship. As a result of this, Fleet Captain McCallister offered him a permanent posting on the Odyssey. Realising he had no other choice, Jonarom accepted and joined the Odyssey senior staff.

While in the Delta Quadrant in the Swallow Nebula region, Jonarom worked with others and the Benthans to set up new Starfleet deep space relay boosters, using a cyclic pulsar to increase their range of communication and folded-subspace. When the Odyssey detected a faint Borg neural-interlink frequency, Jonarom offered to disrupt it, but instead, he helped locate the source of the frequency. The ship found a Borg transwarp hub in mid-construction. Eventually, the crew destroyed the hub without letting a Malon salvage fleet take it over. In the middle of the battle, the Odyssey recovered a Borg drone and restored him to his original form. Jaceon, a Brunali, found it challenging to adapt to his new environment. As a result, Jonarom agreed to help him rediscover his individuality.

Later on, Captain Karyn Reyas, the Odyssey’s training unit lead, invited Jonarom to join her and a few others in taking the cadets assigned to the Odyssey out on the USS Telemachus to undertake a training excursion. Jonarom assisted as the Telemachus’s science officer and advised/mentored some of the cadets. During this mission, he impressed Captain Reyas, who reminded him to keep enjoying his role as a science officer.

USS Bellerophon (NCC-74705)

At the end of 2401, the Bellerophon was repaired and ready to return with the rest of the Odyssey Squadron. Captain Reyas was put into command, and she immediately offered Jonarom his former role back. He gladly accepted on the spot and recommended one of Odyssey’s pilots, Ensign Ryan Chambers, to join the ship as its chief flight control officer. Reyas appreciated the suggestion and, after reviewing Chambers’ record, Reyas offered him the role. Jonarom was pleased that one of his friends, since joining the Odyssey, would be joining him on the Bellerophon. The two of them shared similar interests.

In mid-2402, during the Vaadwaur invasion, Jonarom was part of a team that discovered an underground Vaadwaur hidden base. They downloaded a computer database, but it was heavily encrypted. With help from Chambers, Jonarom was able to break into the database. With help from others in the squadron, he was able to discover the Vaadwaur plans to undermine key civilisations in the Nacene Reach of the Delta Quadrant. With this information, the squadron was able to form an alliance between those species affected by the Vaadwaur. For his efforts, Jonarom received a commendation citation.
