Carter Westerham is a Starfleet Officer who serves as the Chief Engineer assigned to the USS Triton. Carter is an experienced engineer who has taught at Starfleet Academy. In 2401, it was discovered a rogue Changeling infiltrator had replaced him as part of the broader plans to defeat Starfleet at the Frontier Day celebrations. Starfleet Intelligence saved Westerham after the plot was discovered and dealt with.

Returning to Starfleet and helping as a chief engineer is one way he feels he can have his penance.
