Whilst the galaxy reels from Cardassian attempts to destroy the Underspace network that spanned the four quadrants, life aboard Hypatia resembles something akin to normality. Ordered to conduct a new survey of the Typhon Expanse, the crew continue to gel as a unit, spending time to talk and share tales of their lives before Hypatia.

Her survey soon draws the ship to explore a particular area of the mysterious region where sensors detect a plethora of quantum anomalies causing disruptions to the fabric of space-time. When Starfleet shares their fear that the anomalies may have catastrophic consequences for the region, the crew investigates further. Their peaceful mission of scientific discovery soon sees the crew experiencing strange phenomena: ghostly apparitions, time loops, and even their own future deaths.

As the crew begin to question their sanity, a chance discovery reveals that the anomalies are the result of experiments conducted by a lost, highly-advanced alien civilisation; a civilisation that attempted to transcend physical existence but is now trapped in a quantum state, trying to escape and end their own suffering.

Can the crew find a way to communicate with these beings and prevent their efforts from destabilising the entire region of space, even if it means risking their own lives?
