USS Babylon is a Grissom-class surveyor assigned to Task Force 17 under the command of Captain Sanjiv Anand. Ostensibly intended for deep space mapping assignments, the Babylon’s primary mission is to follow up on reports of extinct civilizations on the edge of Federation space and determine if further study of these locations would be safe and ethical.
The blue dusk ran between the streets; my love was winged within my mind;
It left to-day and yesterday and thrice a thousand years behind.
To-day was past and dead for me for from to-day my feet had run
Through thrice a thousand years to walk the ways of ancient Babylon.
On temple top and palace roof the burnished gold flung back the rays
Of a red sunset that was dead and lost beyond a million days.
…
Oh, light our life in Babylon, but Babylon has taken wings,
While we are in the calm and proud procession of eternal things.

Ixabi leaned away from the operations console and rubbed her eyes with a weary sigh. Her brain was outright refusing to read the Starfleet report on the Hamsarai that she’d covertly opened on her screen. Maybe nineteen times was enough? Maybe staying up late to re-re-re-read it last night was [...]

Qsshrr skittered down the corridor towards the turbolift, grateful that Anand seemed lost in thought and disinclined to chatter. She needed a moment of reprieve from the high-pitched waves of human voices on the air, even if just for a moment. The tension on the ship was obvious even to her, and as [...]

Szarka tried to quash the smile on her face as she read the message over again. Now was not the time for schadenfreude–particularly not when poor Ixabi looked queasy, as if the content of the message was somehow her fault–but if she didn’t respond to the situation with dark humor, then [...]
